SHAZNI ZAINAL
SILENT LINES
Shazni’s project features various public recreational places, commonly situated in residential areas. They are photographed at non-gated areas where residents from nearby neighbourhoods can enjoy them without the need to have special access. Growing up, these were the places that we often go to whenever we are outdoors visiting friends from different neighbourhoods or even discovering new ones. It was one of the best things to do before the era of Smart Technology and the Digital Age.
Two objectives come into play with this project. With the recent pandemic and Movement Control Orders (MCOs), these areas were out of bounds and we begin to appreciate being outdoors even more. Secondly, most of these playgrounds were photographed within the rapidly developing city of Kuala Lumpur, some could be potential areas that may be the subject of future re-developments and therefore sadly, may not be around for long.
