2. BENEDETTA DONATO : FIREFLIES ~ NEW PERSPECTIVES ON EMERGING ITALIAN PHOTOGRAPHY

"I received inspiration from the huge Gregory Crewdson exhibition inaugurated in Turin a few months ago and also presented at the Rencontres recently. This series a few years ago, was also exposed and makes you think about how Fireflies speaks to the most elemental features of photography: beauty and meaning derived through light. They live through light and have existed long before man invented the light bulb. Firefly populations, which are indicators of the state of health of the environment, are declining in several areas of the world, especially in Italy.
The light fireflies produce is probably the most efficient, is luminescent and for all of us they represent memories, moments to relive and recreate through the glare of photography. Fireflies represent the ideal metaphor to focus on authors and projects that have the ability to enlighten us and illuminate reality with their perspectives.
With a different light!
My talk will be illustrated by a selection of about 10-15 artists who articulated different themes, such as family, motherhood, relationships, landscape, environment, places, and identity." ~ Benedetta Donato
